Creative outlets are new tools to understand and avoid high-risk behaviour — in Yunnan children paint, draw, perform and dance at art projects run by Border Statements; in southern Sichuan, at the Song Zha Art Project children orphaned by drugs and AIDS paint dreams rather than recycled images to impress adults — their first time expressing and valuing
their personal experiences; when the ten-year-old son of circus performers travelled from England to the border he documented his journey in a series of sensitive portraits, testament to children’s ability to articulate ideas beyond language.
